Salary increases for RCMP Commissioned Officers

Publishing Date

RCMP Commissioned Officers (rank of Inspector and above) have received a salary increase from the federal government that is structured similarly to the compensation framework recently awarded to unionized Members (below the rank of Inspector and Reservists).

The salary increase implemented by the federal government will cover two years (2023-24 and 2024-25), and include the following:

  • An 8.23% compounded salary increase, including economic increases and market adjustments:
    • April 1, 2023: 4% (3% economic increase, 1% market adjustment).
    • April 1, 2024: 4% (3% economic increase, 1% market adjustment).
  • A one-time allowance of $2,500 related to the performance of regular duties. This will not apply to those who are eligible for performance pay under the Directive on Performance and Talent Management for Executives.

As an example, under these changes, an Inspector’s annual rate of pay will increase from $145,904 – $156,682 in 2022 to $151,784 – $162,996 as of April 1, 2023, and to $157,916 – $169,581 as of April 1, 2024. Increases will also apply to the positions of Superintendent, Chief Superintendent, Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.

In addition to these salary increases, changes were made to certain benefits, including:

  • Increasing the maximum amount of vacation time that can be carried over, to 400 hours.
  • Giving the employer the discretion to grant an officer on education leave without pay, an allowance in lieu of salary up to 100% of an officer’s annual rate of pay.

Earlier this month, UBCM published an article advising that the federal Treasury Board of Canada (employer) and the National Police Federation, the union representing RCMP members below the rank of Inspector and Reservists, had signed the second RCMP collective agreement. This collective agreement does not apply to Commissioned Officers (rank of Inspector and above).
