Input sought on ID rules for purchasing liquor/cannabis

Currently, any individual who purchases liquor or cannabis must show two pieces of identification if requested by the licensed establishment. The Province is proposing regulatory amendments that would only require one piece of government-issued ID for liquor or cannabis purchases. Local governments interested in commenting on this proposed amendment are asked to do so by September 15, 2023.

The Province is proposing amendments to Section 158 of the Liquor Control and Licensing Regulation and Section 37 of the Cannabis Licensing Regulation that would only require one piece of government-issued ID for liquor or cannabis purchases. These proposed amendments are consistent with other provincial requirements, such as tobacco purchases.
