The Province’s Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB) is interested in hearing from industry and partners, including local governments, as it undertakes the development of regulations that will accompany the new Gaming Control Act. The new Act, which received Royal Assent in November 2022, strengthens regulatory oversight for the gambling sector in BC.
The GPEB is looking for feedback on regulatory matters related to:
- development of gaming facilities (e.g., consultation requirements, Minister’s approval considerations, etc.); and
- requirements that the BC Lottery Corporation and casinos must follow to keep the gambling sector safe for players (e.g., prevention of problem gambling and unlawful activity).
- Changes to the Province’s commercial gambling model and the broader statutory framework (including revenue sharing and the selection of locations for gaming facilities) are outside the scope of these consultations.
Local governments wishing to participate in the consultation are asked to contact GPEB. Interested communities will be sent a consultation survey and; if there is sufficient interest, a consultation session will be held the week of April 24th.
