In Memoriam - Frank Storey

Publishing Date

Long-serving UBCM staff member Frank Storey passed away on November 5, 2019. Mr. Storey was a member of the Union of BC Municipalities staff for nearly 30 years as a local government advisor and research officer. He retired in 2005 and was awarded a UBCM Life membership for his service.

Storey started at UBCM on December 6, 1976 with previous work experience in the forest and oil and gas industries. From those early years up to his retirement in 2005, Storey served the association in a variety of capacities, from general office accounting to representing the UBCM on committees and legislative working groups.

“When I joined UBCM in 1982 we had six employees and Frank was one,” said Richard Taylor, former Executive Director.  “I recall the hours Frank spent that year pouring over data that went into UBCM’s request that municipalities be given the authority to establish “variable property tax rates”. Today this is an accepted and vital part of municipal finance. Frank was part of the foundation of the UBCM that we know today."

Frank was a key contact and valuable source of local government information within the organization and amongst the broader membership. He contributed in so many ways to the betterment of BC local government and will be missed by all in the local government family.

On behalf of the UBCM staff, Executive and membership our deepest condolences to James and Karen, Frank’s two children.
