Taxation to Support SPCA

WHEREAS animal control and cruelty complaints are handled by the branches of the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals throughout BC; AND WHEREAS funding is necessary to support both the small rural branches as well as the larger urban centres, especially with the greater need per capita in less-densely populated areas; AND WHEREAS animal control may not be a function of a region or small municipality: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the UBCM lobby the provincial government to enact legislation to implement a levy of an additional tax on all pet food sales to help cover the operational costs of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals provincial funding needs.
