WHEREAS Teamsters Canada has brought to the attention of local government the catastrophic Lac-Mgantic train accident and Transport Canadas neglect to ensure the safety of rail transport of hazardous materials; AND WHEREAS rail transport self-regulation must come to an end and public safety must come before profit: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM petition the Province of BC, to request that Transport Canada regulate the safe transport of hazardous materials by all transportation modes throughout Canada.
