PST Exemption for Local Government

WHEREAS the cost of construction materials has risen beyond reasonable estimates, making it increasingly necessary to increase taxation to absorb cost overruns on both capital and general projects; AND WHEREAS taxpayers are faced with double taxation by paying provincial sales tax on local government projects and increased property tax to meet increased project costs: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities petition the Ministry of Finance to introduce legislation exempting BC local governments from payment of provincial sales tax.
