WHEREAS there is a lack of parity between the powers of authority granted to school boards and municipal councils; AND WHEREAS this lack of parity may make it difficult for municipal councils to have meaningful and transparent dialogues with school boards on important issues: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the provincial government be urged to bring about better harmonization between school boards and local governments by amending Section 69 of the School Act so that it is in accordance with Section 89-97 of the Community Charter.
MINISTRY OF EDUCATION At the current time no amendments related to the matters raised in the resolution are being considered for the School Act. However, it is always useful to hear the concerns raised by our municipal partners. This resolution will be kept on file for consideration when an opportunity to review section 69 arises.
