WHEREAS the Homeowner Protection Act requirements are resulting in unintended negative impacts on heritage buildings in Victoria; AND WHEREAS the City of Victoria invests hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to conserve its heritage resources; AND WHEREAS most heritage buildings have demonstrated their sound performance over decades of use; AND WHEREAS heritage buildings are defined as: Buildings, recognized or protected for their heritage value, by the Provincial, Federal or local governments, or subject to a convenant or agreement to conserve heritage value: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the UBCM requests the Province of British Columbia consider an exemption for buildings recognized or protected for their heritage value from the requirements of the Homeowner Protection Act.
