Policing

WHEREAS the Solicitor General has advised the Union of British Columbia Municipalities UBCM that the Province plans to implement a new police financing model beginning in 2007; AND WHEREAS there is presently no transparency of, nor accountability for, taxes raised or expended for policing in rural areas and contract municipalities in the province; AND WHEREAS UBCM has established a Police Financing Task Force to represent the interests of its members in dealing with the Solicitor General on the issue of police financing: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, as an aspect of this mandate, the UBCM Police Financing Task Force ensure clarity on how funds for the new policing model are raised and allocated in order to achieve equity for all members.
