Participation of First Nations at UBCM

WHEREAS all municipalities and regional districts in British Columbia are situated within the traditional territories of First Nations, and First Nations are an integral part of society; economically, culturally and socially; AND WHEREAS in order to achieve a sustainable future for British Columbia it is imperative that the three governing bodies, Regional Districts, Municipalities and First Nations, move forward together; AND WHEREAS the Union of BC Municipalities is constantly having discussions, forming committees and passing resolutions regarding First Nations issues without the meaningful participation of First Nations: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities enables full participation of First Nations in meaningful discussions and the opportunity to have full membership on all standing and select committees of the Union of BC Municipalities.
