WHEREAS thousands of British Columbia residents each year are diagnosed with or die of cancer and other chronic illnesses These life-threatening conditions affect not only those with the illness, but their families, their friends and colleagues and the organizations that assist them. The impact of serious illness and disease affects us all, in terms of our economy and our communities and further impacts the costs to the government when personal resources are exhausted.; AND WHEREAS the high cost of last chance drugs, supporting medication and extended away-from-home living expenses has resulted in an inequality of access to promising new treatment approaches in the Province of British Columbia: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that any cancer drug, serious illness drug and out-of town lodging needed by British Columbian citizens, deemed necessary for treatment and authorized by a medical specialist, be covered by the Medical Services Plan of BC.
