Home Renovation Tax Credits

Whereas the Quebec government has recently announced a new broad scope tax credit to encourage home renovations, and municipalities across British Columbia and Canada recognize the importance of home renovations, and of housing affordability and adaptability in their communities sustainability; And whereas housing renovations are recognized to help seniors stay at home, help the special needs of a family member or convert it to an intergenerational home, to create skilled employment for young people, and the use of refundable tax credits for renovations are known to boost energy efficiency, local economies, assist in removal of asbestos products, and to reduce off-permit renovations: Therefore be it resolved that UBCM urge the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada to create new tax credit programs for consumers designed to help accomplish initial goals of sustainability and affordability to help encourage home renovations.
