WHEREAS municipalities who have received a resort region designation under Section 6.8 of the Local Government Act have the ability to impose development cost charges to provide funds to assist in paying the capital costs of providing, constructing, altering or expanding employee housing to service directly, or indirectly , the operation of resort activities; AND WHEREAS one of the largest segments of the population that requires access to affordable housing are service industry workers and the ability of a municipality to fund this type of housing is limited: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that amendments be made to the Local Government Act to permit all municipalities, not just municipalities with a resort region designation, to impose development cost charges for the purpose of providing, constructing, altering or expanding employee housing in order to help address the issue of affordable housing.
