WHEREAS the Province of BC and Canada are offering a range of local government funding programs to stimulate the economy and address infrastructure deficits, with a majority of these programs requiring a 33 to 50 contribution by local governments; AND WHEREAS small and mid-sized communities are more vulnerable to the effects of the current economic downturn and are challenged in providing their prescribed share of infrastructure project costs thus preventing them from applying for critical infrastructure funding: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities encourage BC and Canada to implement cost sharing formulas for infrastructure grants that reduce the level of contribution for small and mid-sized local governments.
