Closure of Coast Guard Stations

WHEREAS the federal government recently announced the closure of several Coast Guard facilities on the West Coast of British Columbia without any consultation with impacted regions; AND WHEREAS the proposed closures will impact the safety of vessel traffic on British Columbias West Coast and the economies of several West Coast communities: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the UBCM urge the Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans to suspend the announced closure of Coast Guard facilities on the West Coast and that the UBCM host a meeting of impacted communities and the Minister to discuss the impacts of these closures and possible alternatives to closures.
