Breach of Oath of Office by Elected Officials

WHEREAS a person elected or appointed to office on a council is disqualified from holding that office if that person does not make the oath of office required in accordance with Section 120 of the Community Charter Oath or Affirmation of Office; AND WHEREAS the legal remedies for sanction of elected officials who breach the required oath of office are insufficient: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM petition the provincial government to amend Section 110 of the Community Charter Circumstances in which a person is disqualified from office on council, to include the breach of the required oath of office established by Section 120 of the Community Charter Oath or Affirmation of Office.
