The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is working to develop provincial flood policy guidance, and is seeking input on a variety of flood-related topics. This work relates directly to the BC Flood Strategy, released on March 21, 2024. Written feedback will be accepted until December 20, 2024, 4 pm.
Four topics are under consideration.
- Wise practices for advancing First Nations and local government partnerships for integrated flood management
- Design guidelines for nature-based solutions for BC flood infrastructure
- Integrated flood management planning
- Economic assessments and decision-making for managed retreat in BC
Backgrounders on each topics can be found on the BC Flood Strategy portal.
The Province is inviting stakeholder submissions (up to a maximum of 500 words), including those from local governments and First Nations, to help inform new policy.
An engagement summary report is expected by summer 2025.
