UBCM has developed a best practice guide to assist local governments in the development of fair and equitable remuneration polices for elected officials. The guide responds to a resolution (B148) endorsed at the 2018 UBCM convention. In recognition of local government autonomy and the need for approaches that reflect local needs and circumstances, the guide offers practical advice based on research findings and the experiences of municipalities and regional districts around the province.
The project was announced earlier this year in advance of a survey of corporate officers to identify the current range of practice. The resource provides options that are scalable relative to the varying resources, capacity, and contexts of local governments in British Columbia.
UBCM Executive extends its thanks to Mr. Allan Neilson who has been a consultant to this project. If you have questions or comments about the guide, please contact Paul Taylor, Director of Communications.
