WHEREAS the municipality is more frequently being declared the purchaser at a Tax Sale and must wait another year before the property can be sold, leaving the municipality without payment of taxes for four years; AND WHEREAS more often properties of which the municipality is declared the purchaser at a Tax Sale have outstanding strata fees: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities request that the provincial government stipulate: a that there is no redemption period if the municipality is declared the purchaser; and b that the municipality is not held responsible for any outstanding strata fees against a property if the municipality is declared the purchaser.
