Fire Safety Act info session for CAOs

Publishing Date

The Office of the Fire Commissioner is holding a virtual information session about the Fire Safety Act for CAOs on December 5, 10 am PST. The 90-minute session will review the administrative elements of the FSA and invite attendees to ask questions.

Questions posed at this session will be added to the Fire Safety Act Q&A document, one of the reference materials available for local governments.

Interested CAOs can join the session through MS Teams. There is no requirement to register beforehand. Correspondence containing additional information regarding this session was delivered to all CAOs earlier this week.

In addition, the Office of the Fire Commissioner will hold three sessions for fire chiefs that will focus on operational requirements and associated standards, training and resources.

The FSA came into force on August 1, 2024. It includes new requirements for local governments, including responsibility for fire inspections and investigations. The Single Standard of Fire Safety Working Group, a working group comprised of UBCM representatives, has been working with the Office of the Fire Commissioner on the implementation of a single standard of fire safety across BC.

If you have any questions about the session, please contact Lori Cascaden, Director, Strategic Initiatives, Office of the Fire Commissioner via email or phone: 778-405-4392.
