ICBC has confirmed its intention to transition to an 8-digit format for all new and existing driver’s license numbers. Local and Indigenous governments are strongly encouraged to assess their in-house systems and processes, to determine whether this change could impact their information systems and business operations.
ICBC has prepared technical guidelines to assist with this assessment. Indigenous and local government staff are asked to:
- inform ICBC by April 30, 2022 whether the change to driver’s licence numbers will impact government operations; and
- complete the online contact form to identify the technical contacts within their government who will handle this change
ICBC indicates that they will follow up directly with designated local or Indigenous government staff, including a one-on-one meeting if required.
