Child Care Space Creation Funding

Publishing Date

Applications are now being accepted for the second intake of the Community Child Care Space Creation program. Local governments may apply to both funding streams within this program. Local governments will be able to apply for up to $1 million in funding for significant capital investments in their communities for licensed full-time child care for children up to five years of age.

Local governments are able to apply to both the UBCM-administered Child Care Space Creation program and the provincially-administered Child Care BC New Spaces Fund to fund spaces in the same project. However, these distinct funding streams cannot be stacked for the same spaces and/or license types. For example, applicants can apply to the Community Child Care Space Creation program for up to $1 million for the creation of spaces in the Group Child Care (Under 36 months) license type and up to $3 million for the creation of spaces of a different license type in the same project.

Local governments are encouraged to contact the Ministry of Children and Family Development and UBCM if there is interest in applying to both funding programs concurrently. The deadline for the Community Child Care Space Creation program is November 22, 2019.
