WHEREAS Canada Post no longer delivers unaddressed mail for local government, including municipal service notices e.g., schedule of snow removal, changes in garbage pickup, announcement of town hall meetings; AND WHEREAS Canada Post customers who have elected to not receive mail under the Consumers Choice Program do not receive important unaddressed mail from local government publications that inform citizens of changes to municipal services, etc.; AND WHEREAS there are five exemptions under the program: community newspapers and House of Commons; Elections Canada; Provincial Chief Electoral Officers; and municipal electoral mailings: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the UBCM requests that the federal and provincial governments demand a change to the Canada Post Consumers Choice Program to permit the delivery of all local government mailings through the unaddressed admail service to all customers.
