WHEREAS the use of pesticides can cause long-term environmental damage, polluting soil and groundwater, as well as creeks, streams, and other bodies of water, through stormwater runoff; AND WHEREAS there is uncertainty about the health and safety risks caused from even low-level pesticide exposure, especially in children: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities petition the provincial government reduce the number of pesticide products available to the public; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the provincial government be urged to call on all the provinces and the federal government to take the same action to reduce the use of pesticides.
