WHEREAS members of organized crime gangs may adapt vehicles to protect themselves from gunfire, explosive devices and rocket-propelled grenades; AND WHEREAS after-market armouring generally adds significant weight to a vehicle which, if not offset by an enhanced engine, suspension, steering and brakes, may render the vehicle unsafe and pose a risk to public safety; AND WHEREAS all levels of government are taking proactive steps to suppress gang activity and protect communities from violent crime: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities be requested to call upon the Province of BC to amend the Motor Vehicle Act to prohibit the illegal armouring of vehicles in BC.
