WHEREAS pedestrian, vehicle and locomotive safety at railwayroad crossings is of utmost importance; AND WHEREAS locomotives operating within urban boundaries violently offend local noise bylaws and upset the peaceful enjoyment of residential and commercial properties: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities take a lead role in demanding that rail corporations assume direct responsibility to provide controlled railway crossings within incorporated communities in British Columbia, and that antiquated whistle sounding practices be discontinued in these locations.
