WHEREAS much of the natural resource industry is located in areas outside of municipal boundaries and therefore is not subject to municipal taxes, while municipalities are the service centres to industry and its workers, and industry growth will continue to place additional demands on municipal infrastructure and services; AND WHEREAS the Government of British Columbia has recognized the inequity that existed between local governments in the Peace River Regional District through a Memorandum of Understanding commonly referred to as the Fair Share Agreement in 1998 and renewed in 2005 with the 2012 benefit to the local governments inside the regional district totalling over 35 million: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM lobby the Government of British Columbia for a natural resource revenue sharing agreement for all local governments who desire it.
