Moratorium on IPPs

WHEREAS the Council of the Town of Golden recognizes that independent power production facilities may contribute a share of the provinces energy production capacity now and in the future; AND WHEREAS the enactment of Bill 30 by the Province has prevented meaningful consultation and control by the public and local governments regarding the planning and implementation of such facilities: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the UBCM supports a moratorium on the approval of private power projects until the completion of a comprehensive regulatory, environmental, and community review process which examines the cumulative impacts of such projects both locally and provincially.
