Measuring Up the North - Accessibility Standards

WHEREAS the Measuring Up The North initiative has been successful in helping northern BC communities assess and improve how livable, age-friendly, disability-friendly, universally designed, and inclusive they are for all citizens and visitors; AND WHEREAS the BC Building Code provides only minimal accessibility requirements: AND WHEREAS the CAN CSA-B651 Accessibility for the Built Environment standard is recognized as a model standard by many Canadian jurisdictions including all federally owned and leased properties: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that members of the UBCM be encouraged to utilize the CAN CSA-B651 Accessibility for the Built Environment standard current edition in any planning, new construction and renovations.
