WHEREAS genetically modified organisms GMO and the foods containing them have not been fully tested and proven safe for human consumption by Health Canada; AND WHEREAS Health Canada does not require mandatory labeling of all food products containing GMOs in British Columbia or in any Canadian province: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities lobby the provincial government and the Minister of Health to make it a requirement to label all food products containing GMOs in British Columbia, and said label is to list each GMO item contained in the food product thereby allowing the consumer to make an informed decision as to the ingredients of the food they consume.
