WHEREAS effective engagement of youth in local, provincial and federal governance structures and systems is critical to successful and effective democracy; AND WHEREAS the BC school curriculum does not include local government as a required component unlike other jurisdictions such as the Province of Alberta: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM lobby the provincial government to include education regarding BCs system of local government within the mandatory curriculum for grade 6 or 7 education.
