Legislative Liability Protection for Road Rescue Service Providers

WHEREAS the Province has delegated the responsibility for and depends upon locally-based volunteer search and rescue, road rescue, and fire rescue organizations to provide these services on public highways; AND WHEREAS the Province has failed to update and maintain legislative and insurance frameworks that adequately protect these organizations with liability and resource support: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities petition the provincial government to immediately modernize legislation and provide adequate and meaningful liability coverage and resource funding for third party organizations undertaking rescue services upon public highways on its behalf.
