Provincial Response

Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development The Ministry recognizes that the Community Charter and Local Government Act are important tools in the day to day functioning of local governments and in decision making. Legislation can be difficult to navigate and there is no comprehensive index linking the Local Government Act and the Community Charter. The Province provides free public access to the searchable BC Laws website, which maintains up to date access to both the Community Charter and the Local Government Act. The BC Laws website is a user-friendly and interactive access point for legislation that incorporates a hyperlinked Table of Contents that acts as a broad outline of the content of the statutes. In addition, this tool is searchable using the website keyword search bar option, or using standard keyboard search tools. More information on the use of the BC Laws website can be found in the BC Laws User Manual.
