WHEREAS recently introduced carbon tax is discriminatory towards rural, and particularly northern rural residents, whom - Have little or no opportunity to take advantage of mass transit and - Often must travel for essential services that urban residents do not e.g. medical; AND WHEREAS the 100 Climate Action Dividend is likewise discriminatory, as it doesnt reflect the differential between rural and urban burdens under a consumptive tax system: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities lobby the provincial government to ensure that adjustments be made between rural and urban areas in order to equalize the burden to all residents.
