Whereas local governments in British Columbia have been enduring financial downloading from both federal and provincial levels of government for decades; And whereas local governments in British Columbia will face further increases in costs with the legalization of cannabis, including but not limited to, policing, licensing, enforcement, zoning and zoning enforcement, by-laws and by-law enforcement and possible health issues: Therefore be it resolved that UBCM call for the Province to provide to BC local governments an equal share 5050 of the provincial tax revenue from the sales of cannabis in British Columbia in lieu of the increased financial burden legalization will bring to the local government level.
