Among the housing-related legislation passed by the Province in fall 2023 was Bill 47 which will legislate minimum density requirements around designated transit hubs. In a session at the 2024 UBCM Housing Summit, Transit-oriented development under Bill 47, representatives from three BC cities with significant transit hubs will examine the implications of the bill.
Through a moderated panel, Brad West (Mayor, City of Port Coquitlam), Don Luymes (General Manager, Planning and Development, City of Surrey), and Emily Sinclair (Senior Manager, Regional and Strategic Planning, Capital Regional District) will discuss what changes the bill will incur for municipalities and regional districts, including implications for development finance, the delivery of affordable housing, alignment with regional growth strategies, parking and other critical implementation considerations.
