Special Committee on Climate Action: Update

Publishing Date

The UBCM Special Committee on Climate Action held its second meeting on October 2nd.  The Committee received a presentation on the provincial climate action strategy, CleanBC, and discussed areas where local governments could have the greatest impact with GHG reductions.

In particular, members discussed ways that communities could support mitigation in buildings, waste management, transportation, renewable energy, and the development of the green economy.  The Committee reviewed the state of climate action within BC, including best practices adopted by communities of all sizes from all regions.  It also reviewed a revised work plan and outreach plan based on previous Committee input, and discussed a background paper on the roles and responsibilities of each order of government in tackling climate change.

The Committee also welcomed Councillor Blair Lekstrom from the City of Dawson Creek as the newest member of the Committee.
