In advance of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) invitation for board nominations, UBCM would like to remind local governments of UBCM-FCM Small Communities Travel Fund. This fund provides financial support to local government elected officials from BC attending the FCM Board and Standing Committee meetings. The travel fund is intended to ensure that smaller communities are represented at FCM and have the financial means to participate.
In order to be eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses, recipients must meet the following criteria:
- A local government elected official;
- From a community with a population of 55,000 or less;
- From a community that contributes to the fund; and
- Elected to FCM’s board OR appointed to an FCM standing committee
The long-term financial sustainability of the UBCM-FCM Travel Fund is reliant on the voluntary contributions from BC local governments and ensures that local governments of all sizes and locations in BC have an equal opportunity to be represented at FCM. The criteria for eligibility includes the requirement that a community contribute to the fund in order to be eligible for reimbursement. The UBCM Executive asks that each member give consideration to the voluntary contribution and the positive benefit that results from a united and inclusive voice from local governments, large and small.
