The Province has initiated work to modernize the Mineral Tenure Act (MTA). UBCM members have endorsed several resolutions seeking amendments to the MTA to address the potential and real conflicts between surface and sub-surface rights holders.
This work will support provincial commitments made under the Declaration Act, including alignment of laws with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and action plan item 2.14 to “modernize the Mineral Tenure Act (MTA) in consultation and cooperation with First Nations and First Nations organizations,” and to engage other interest holders, including local governments.
Sessions will be held on Tuesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 13, 2024. The same information will be shared at both sessions, and it will be recorded and shared afterwards for those unable to attend.
