The federal government has announced that it is expanding eligibility for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) to include seasonal and part-time workers, such as volunteer firefighters. Seasonal workers, those who have exhausted employment insurance benefits, and those making less than $1,000 per month now qualify for the CERB.
These changes will take effect retroactive to March 15.
The federal government introduced the CERB program in March 2020, providing a taxable benefit of $2,000 every four weeks for up to four months to individuals who have lost their income as a result of COVID-19.
