Application intakes opening for Community Emergency Preparedness Fund

Program materials for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 intakes of the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund are now available. The CEPF is a suite of funding streams intended to enhance the resiliency of local governments, First Nations, and communities in preparing for and responding to emergencies and climate-related risks.

New this year: Smaller funding streams will see an increase in funding from $30,000 to $40,000, as noted below. CEPF funding is open to all First Nations and local governments in BC. The following CEPF funding streams are now open to receive applications:

Disaster Risk Reduction – Climate Adaptation (DRR-CA) – Application deadline: October 4, 2024. The intent of this stream is to support the reduction of risks from future disasters due to natural hazards and climate-related events. This funding stream now includes extreme temperature planning activities. Funding maximums are unchanged.

Volunteer and Composite Fire Departments Equipment and Training – Application deadline: October 18, 2024. The intent of this stream is to enhance the ability of volunteer fire departments and composite fire department to prepare for and respond to emergencies. Funding has increased to up to $40,000 per eligible applicant. In addition to BC local governments and First Nations, society-run volunteer fire departments in good standing are also eligible to apply to this funding stream.

Indigenous Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility Training – Application deadline: November 1, 2024. The intent of this stream is to enhance cultural safety and cultural humility in the delivery of local emergency management programs and services. Funding has increased to up to $40,000 per eligible applicant.

Emergency Support Services Equipment and Training – Application deadline: January 31, 2025. The intent of this stream is to build local capacity to provide emergency support services through volunteer recruitment, retention and training, and ESS equipment purchases. Funding has increased to up to $40,000 per eligible applicant.

Emergency Operations Centres Equipment and Training – Application deadline: February 28, 2025. The intent of this stream is to support the purchase of equipment and supplies required to maintain or improve Emergency Operations Centres, and to enhance EOC capacity through training and exercises. Funding has increased to up to $40,000 per eligible applicant.

Public Notification and Evacuation Route Planning – Application deadline: April 25, 2025. The intent of this stream is the development of Evacuation Route Plans and/or Public Notification Plans that provide information for First Nations, local governments, and community members in the event of an emergency. Funding has increased to up to $40,000 per eligible applicant.
