The Organization
The Union of BC Municipalities is a member driven association formed in 1905 to provide a common voice for local governments in BC. UBCM’s vision is to effectively represent and serve all local governments in BC by being the recognized advocate for their common interests and by meeting the common needs of our membership. The Position
This new Senior Policy Analyst within the UBCM’s Policy Team will serve as the primary contact for all policy related to community economic development. This portfolio encompasses a broad scope of natural resource policy issues related to: forests, fish (aquaculture), energy, mining, agriculture, tourism, technology sector, arts, culture as well as strategies related to community transition supports as well as jobs/skills training and retraining. You will lead policy research and analysis on all of the above economic development related issues; liaise with provincial, federal, non-governmental and industry counterparts on a broad scope of policy issues related to community economic development; support the implementation of member policy direction through your advocacy work; represent UBCM interests on external committees, boards and working groups; and identify opportunities to advance local economic development opportunities for BC communities.
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:
- Eight years of relevant employment or consulting experience, in the federal, provincial, local government or non-governmental sectors in conducting policy research and analysis, consulting with stakeholders, preparing policy reports, briefing materials, and presentations, and acting as a team lead or project manager.
- Master’s degree in political science, public administration, business/economics, planning or similar discipline.
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of natural resource policy, its impact on BC communities and their economic well-being; and general knowledge of the other economic drivers that support local economic development in BC.
- Please note, candidates with less qualifications may be considered at a lower salary level.

Salary
$95,843 - $119,732 annually, $3,993 - $4,989 semi-monthly (2024 rates).
