Speculation Tax Local Government Consultation

Whereas the provincial government has introduced a speculation tax with the intent to deter investors removing homes from the long-term housing stock; And whereas in many areas of the province, non-resident property owners invest in our communities financially, are active community members, some coming for generations, and many eventually become full-time residents: Therefore be it resolved that UBCM urge the Province to consult with communities prior to implementing a speculation tax, taking into account local circumstances, and to allow local governments to opt in or out of the tax.
