Whereas local governments wish to improve economic drivers and help local and BC companies grow in our region; And whereas a listing of all registered businesses as collected by BC Registries and Online Services would facilitate as a mechanism to understand the existing businesses and potential economic opportunities: Therefore be it resolved that UBCM call on the Ministry of Technology, Innovation Citizens Servicesthe ministry responsible for BC Registries and Online Servicesand request that a business registry census be provided to municipal and regional governments annually.
Ministry of Citizens Services Our government is committed to building a strong economy that benefits hard working British Columbians in all areas of the province. Legislation currently does not provide the ability to search for BC companies by geographic location, nor is the system used by BC Registry Services designed to perform searches in this way. However, we are in discussions with the Ministry of Finance regarding future changes to the Business Corporations Act and the Ministry of Citizen Services is supportive of further exploration of this idea.
