Whereas the Province announced that beginning September 1, 2016 a person with disabilities on disability assistance will receive a monthly rate increase of 77 which will be reduced by the amount for clients who receive transportation assistance, and in addition, persons with disabilities will be required to pay a 45 annual administration fee to apply for an annual BC Bus Pass; And whereas the rate for disability assistance in BC has been frozen at 906 a month since 2007: Therefore be it resolved that the cost of transportation assistance not be deducted from disability assistance.

Provincial Response

Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation As of September 1, 2016, the Ministry introduced a general increase to the support allowance of 25 and introduced the Transportation Support Allowance TSA of 52 to all individuals who have the Persons with a Disability PWD designation receiving Disability Assistance under the BC Employment and Assistance BCEA Program. The TSA can be provided as either 52 in assistance or as an in-kind bus pass. In addition, the 45 annual administration fee was eliminated for PWD individuals who chose to receive the in-kind bus pass.
