WHEREAS municipal spending is often compared to or linked to the Consumer Price Index which measures changes in the price level of consumer goods and services purchased by households; AND WHEREAS municipalities experience with inflation can differ greatly from the Consumer Price Index as the largest municipal expenditures are typically labour, materials and contractual services which are different factors than those found in the Consumer Price Index: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM request that the provincial government include in the Terms of Reference of the Municipal Auditor General the creation of a Municipal Price Index that will improve the accuracy by which municipal costs can be projected.
