Reimbursement of Costs for Keeping of Prisoners

WHEREAS the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General has a fixed budget available to pay for federal and provincial prisoners housed in local government lockups; AND WHEREAS the current reimbursement per prisoner fluctuates in accordance with the number of prisoners kept each quarter and does not reflect the true operating cost to the local government for keeping these prisoners: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM request the Province to reimburse local governments the actual costs of housing federal and provincial prisoners that are held in local government owned RCMP detachment buildings.
