School Funding Policy Paper

WHEREAS the Government of British Columbia recognizes that rural and small communities have unique needs and that these communities are experiencing declining enrolment in schools due to the temporary decline in population and other economic drivers, and that these communities are working with the local school boards to retain primary and secondary education for future growth; AND WHEREAS the current funding formula for schools used to support school funding is structured based on a healthy economic environment of small and rural communities and at the present this funding formula is resulting in declining allocation of funds to the schools in small and rural communities: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities form a joint task force consisting of representatives from AKBLG, UBCM and BCSTA with the objective of formulating a school funding policy paper for submission to the Province of BC for consideration and adoption.
