WHEREAS Section 49 3 of the Local Government Act states that no corporation is entitled to be registered as an elector or have a representative registered as an elector and no corporation is entitled to vote; AND WHEREAS many business owners live outside their jurisdiction and cannot be part of the election process or vote in a referendum, thus giving them no voice or representation in the community in which they invest: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the UBCM request that the provincial government work to develop legislation so that decisions can be made on an individual municipality basis to afford this representation that includes a clear and workable legal definition for a non-resident business vote that maintains the principle of one person one vote.
